Re: VLDB - for real?

What is a VLDB? Used to be 10GB, now it's 100GB, soon it will be 1TB. And the Intel 8086 used to be an adequate processor for most end-user computing. It's all relative. There's probably a corallary to Moore's Law in regard to database size. About the same time that Informix announced the high-end XPS product for MPP and Cluster systems, we also announced the Workgroup Server for NT and low-end Unix systems to address the low-end in addition to our faithful SE product. I believe that we have/are addressing the "bread and butter" or middle market for some time and have only recently put much R&D into the high-end and low-end to expand the scope. The Dynamic Scalable Architecture was designed to address the market from the bottom to the top with a single parallel architecture that raises the bar on performance for all. -- Mark Sigler Client Services Engineer Informix Software, Inc. --
