People, Can someone please explain to me informix version numbers. I am espically interested in the meaning of C1, in for example UC1 and the differences between 9.30.UC2 and 9.40.UC3, or 7.30.UC5 and 7.31.UD5. Thanks Kenneth

F means 64-bit. The Cn and Dn are just fix pack numbering. We start numbering fixpacks= at C1 and continue sequentially and then go to D1 and continue. Fixpacks contain bug fixes and there is no relationship between a UC2 fixpack to= 9.40 and a UC2 fixpack to 9.30. The number before the dot is the product identifier. IDS 7 is a relati= onal database management system. IDS 9 is an object relational database sys= tem. The two numbers following the dots are the major and minor version numb= ers. The differences between 9.40 and 9.30 are extensive enhancements in the= areas of performance (9.40 is substantially faster than 9.30), high availability (ER and HDR can run together), scalability (chunks can be = up to 4TB each instead of 2GB) and extensive application development featu= res. There are a number of white papers regarding IDS 9.40 available on IBM.com. IDS 7.31 is a minor revision of IDS 7.30. It includes a number of enhancements both are quite old so I don't remember what the exact enhancements were. HDR and ER may have been introduced in 7.31. As I mentioned earlier there is no correlation between 7.30 UC5 and 7.31UD5.= When we introduce a release the first release is usually xC1 where the = x indicates the platform and/or word size (32 or 64-bit). 7.31UD5 is the= 11th fixpack of IDS 7 version 31 32-bit (we only went to xC6 before mov= ing on to xD1) we are currently at xD8. The last 2 character are version update codes. The digit is sequential within the letter a change indicating some bug fix. The letter is updated to indicate major bug repairs or minor feature updates. The letters A & B are reserved for the alpha & beta pre-release versions so 'C' is the first public release. If a 'D' follows it is because something was changed beyond a few lines of code, ie a structural change internal to the code. Bug fixes which are client specific or specific to a single platform are indicated by appended an X<digit> (X1, X2, etc.) afger the two existing version characters. Art S. Christine, please do not post MIME to the forums it triples the bandwidth needed to forward the postings and to store them. Below you state: > IDS 7.31 is a minor revision of IDS 7.30. As I > mentioned earlier there is no correlation between 7.30 UC5 and 7.31UD5. HDR has been in IDS since 7.10 and ER (then called CDR) was introduced in 7.20 IB. It is true that neither were completely stable and reliable prior to 7.31 ;-) but they did exist much earlier. Art S.
