There are two really decent articles in the current issue of Informix Systems Journal about the use of solid state disks. Basically, they say that these devices help first at the OS level, usually as swap files (if you're swapping). As database devices, using them for heavy write operations such as physical logs, logical logs, and temp space is very useful. Also, placing small, heavily-used tables and/or indexes on the SSDD will get you good results.
