Re: upgrade

A followup to my own post. First you should go to version 7.21, not 7.20. Se Tech Alert at http://www.informix.com/informix/services/ilink/alerts/111896.htm You definitly want to read the following document: http://www.informix.com/informix/services/ilink/alerts/101796.htm You need access to the Tech Info Center to read these documents. You get that with an appropriate support agreament with Informix. Some of the suggestions in this document seem a little overdone, such as upgrading to the last 5.x release before doing the upgrade to 7.x. I assume the major reason to do this is if you intend to do an in place upgrade (no unload/load of the database) to make sure the data formats are appropriate for that. Also in the list I forgot to say that you must read all the realese notes. That should be rather obvious though. In the document Informix also suggest you read release notes for versions in between the version you go from and the one you go to. This might be a good idea when the versions are so far appart. If you rely on a backup during this upgrade you must also be aware of the Tech Alert about archive curruption in some versions of 5.x OnLine. I don't think that affects ver. 5.13 though, but am not certain. Nils.Myklebust@idg.no (Nils Myklebust) wrote: :It's relatively easy but will take some time and effort: :1.
