Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
User needed to automate ontape -a command on Windows (IDS 9.40) for unattended log archiving triggered by database events. Multiple echo-piping attempts failed. Solution: create a response file (rsp.txt) containing 'y' and use input redirection: ontape -a < rsp.txt. Additionally, use event class 23 (not 20) for log-full detection.

Hello,
I have a customer using Informix 9.40 on Windows.
He uses ontape c command for continous logical backup, but he is not very
happy with that because he has to execute the .bat command every time he
restart the engine or reboots the computer (actually every day). Not to say
that this script must be always running, and he must take care of that.
So that Im planning to execute ontape a as a trigger action of Event_class =
20, in the log_full.log file. To do that unattended, I must send some control
characters to the ontape command.
I tried, but not succeed, with :
Echo y|ontape a
Echo y|ontape a
Echo \\
|ontape a (this worked fine in Linux)
Echo \\
y|ontape a
Could you tell me the exact command to make that work on Windows?
Thanks a lot

Maybe this idea will work. Create a file named rsp.txt that contains
just the letter "y". Then...
ontape -a < rsp.txt

You need to trap event 23 not 20.
