Application server and database server
Posted in 1999
Does anyone have any experience with configuring the application (C programs) to run on one UNIX box (Pyramid S) and the database running on another UNIX box (SUN E10000)? We are currently running Informix 7.2.4 UC8 on a Pyramid S box with 512M memory and 4 CPUs. Its maxed out. If we could put the database on the SUN box, we'd upgrade Informix to 7.3 How complicated is this? We considered moving the app to the SUN box as well but not sure how portable it is written under the Pyramid. Plus the application still has ALL (pre-SQL) calls that use a "converter" routine to ESQL calls. We are in development of a redesign from C programs to Java so we don't want to spend gobs of time on this. Performance response time is horrible.... 20-30 seconds (sometimes 1.5 - 2 minutes depending on num users) to startup the application. We have tuned the OS and Informix as much as possible. We believe limited resources of the hardware is a major contributor to the performance problems. Thanks in advance! Val Valerie H. Webber Valerie.H.Webber@m1.irs.gov 704-569-1002 x107 <<...>>
