Zeida, There is a Unix utility called sudo which allows are user to run a command as someone else. I don't think it is a standard utility, I think you can down load the source from the web. We are running AIX 4.2 and Informix 7.24. Currently we use the ONTAPE utility for our database backups but will be moving to ON-BAR soon. We would like to allow a user, who is in test mode, to backup, but not restore the database. We do not want to give this user access to the Informix password. Nor do we want to make this person a member of the Informix group. We are already backing up every night, but this person feels the need to backup on demand. If you have found a way to do this, please respond. Thank you Zeida Heavener Broward County, FL
