RE: Bringing up a new instance of Informix

Kinda obvious, I know, but...
Are you sure that 1544 isn't already being used by something ELSE in your
/etc/services file?

Thanks for the suggestion Art.
The order in the /etc/services file was changed as per your suggestion
and it did not work.
I also asked for another port number and that too did not work.
I brought down 7.31 instance and continued to access port number 1544
it did not work. But when I changed the sqlhosts file to listen to port
1543 (which belongs to 7.31) then it was OK. 9.20 worked fine.
Looks to me like HP-UX does not allow me to use any port that I want.
There is some thing required to make this port "listenable" which I am
not sure.
May be there are some issues related to NIS. I know that there are
several systems networked to each other. There are a couple of more HP
UX boxes that are available and the users home directory is available
on the same location on all the systems. Also the password file for the
unix authentication is a common one. Makes me suspect that the
/etc/services file it looks is not that is available on the local
machine. Is this possible ?
Any input will be much appreciated.
Thanks
