This is after tuning the On-line engine with buffering and raw devices. We found much beter improvements by performance tuning the SQL statements. This gave us greater increases in speed, (the use of temp tables, better index strat, etc..) than the leap into On-line. Other SQL operations: UPDATE, DELETE improved 10 to 15%. 2) The actual process of migration is straight forward, the configuring and re-configuring required to optimize On-line for your application may not be. If your application queries system tables, for example, you may have to change some of the table refrences, because some system tables in On-line are different than in SE. Some of your maintenance scripts may have to change. (We have a "kill user" [Don't I wish] script that just does a kill -9 on their processes, for SE. This could be more damaging in the On-line environment. 3) TAKE THE ON-LINE CLASS OFFERED BY INFORMIX. It helped our developers consider all they needed (most) before migrating. granholm@cnj.digex.net Medic Computer Systems, Inc. Edison, New Jersey.
