Let's cut down on the noise
Posted in 1995
I have recently had a spell of absence from my e-mail system. I was only away for just over 2 weeks. When I returned I had over 400 messages, most of which were on comp.databases.informix Many of these messages concerned "employment opportunity in Hong Kong". The amount of disk space to hold these messages is considerable. Could I suggest that we all think before we "flame" people for bad postings, or for spelling or grammar. Let's all accept that the users of CDI are sensible people who behave sensibly. They often have language difficulties, and often their messages only apply to their own locality. (I have to read lots of job postings for US jobs which I can't apply for as I don't have a work permit.) Until individual user groups can get their own conferences running for local topics we will all have to accept that much of the traffic in this conference is irrelevant to us as individuals. Please do not get tempted to reply to the group if you think somebody has done a bad posting and if you want to "flame" them. A simple mail nessage to the originator should suffice to vent your feelings.
