Sample code using XWindows (and maybe even C++)

Well, I've browsed the recent posts without success, and even downloaded and searched archive files without finding what I was looking for, so I hope it isn't too intrusive to try this approach... It's probably ought to be in the FAQ that you don't have here, but here goes... I'm an experienced programmer (mostly Pascal, Lisp, and dBASE), and have just finished my introduction to C and XWindows, and now I want to DO something useful. For example, I have a bibliographic system that I did a few years back that I'd like to port to Unix now. Obviously, one of the tools I'd like to work with is a good database system, something like Informix is reputed to be. I say `reputed' because the sample code we have around here (in the backwaters of Japan) is not so impressive. I'm not sure how old it is, and it is native Informix code, but still... What I'm looking for is a small sample application or two that combines the XWindows interface (from C) with Informix. Using examples is usually VERY helpful. (Plus there's the added complication that the local documentation is written in Japanese. Actually, I can sort of read it now (after 5 years), but don't hold your breath.) I've seen some samples of invoking foreign routines from Informix, and that might be a workable approach, though I'd really prefer to invoke the Informix routines from C. But obviously, I'm still relatively naive about the possibilities... (It seems rather too much to hope for, but I'm also interested in learning C++ at this point. If the sample application was written in C++, I wouldn't be too disheartened.) -- If I write it in Japanese, there's a 28% chance it is my opinion. (And Japanese documentation makes for an interesting netlife.)
