Confirmation of every packet on Informix *Wide* area network :-(
Posted in 1995
It would appear that Informix insist in waiting for confirmation of every packet in a client-server application (DOS client to INet back end). This is rather painful when all you want to do is to fill a list-box from a cursor and the back end is on the other side of the globe :-( Informix tech support confirm that this is the case, but I don't understand *why*. TCP/IP guarantees reliability * and order, so why do you need to wait? If Informix arn't using the reliable part of the stack, why not? I can see that you might want sychronisation at the end for commit, but must you impose it for every element being read from a cursor? Andrew * would you believe that the network dropped my connection just as I typed the word "reliability"! -- http://www.kfs.org/~gaffer
