Moving from AIX 6.1 to AIX 7.1

Hi All, Our system admins would like to upgrade the OS on some of our servers from AIX 6.1 to AIX 7.1. These are Power7 servers. We are running IDS11.70.FC8. Has anyone experienced anything negative during a similar migration? Of course I hope the application will be thoroughly tested first, but I just wondered if anyone had run across anything in particular to watch out for. Thanks, Pam
Make sure (release notes) that 11.70.FC8 is certified for AIX 7.1 (Almost sure it is). The only specific things related to AIX that I recall were several years ago.... Shouldn't apply anymore. Make sure the authentication works... I think some customers already did that move... Don't recall being contacted/asked about any issue. But as you say, your own tests are worth more than anything I could state... Regards. Thanks, Fernando. I did verify that it is certified to run on 7.1. ________________________________________ From: ids-bounces@iiug.org [ids-bounces@iiug.org] on behalf of Fernando Nunes [domusonline@gmail.com] Sent: Thursday, January 26, 2017 5:02 PM To: ids@iiug.org Subject: Re: Moving from AIX 6.1 to AIX 7.1 [38570] Make sure (release notes) that 11.70.FC8 is certified for AIX 7.1 (Almost sure it is). Pamela - We had a very difficult time moving to AIX 7.1. We eventually had to turn-off 2 of the 4 threads per core to get our environment back to normal. There is at least 1 white paper out there about this situation of IFMX on 7.1. We are running IDS 11.5.FC8. If you want more detail, send me a phone number to mark@markscranton.com and we can chat. I'll try to find the white paper on this as well. Thanks - Mark Scranton The Mark Scranton Group mark@markscranton.com
