Re: Script for stopping/starting continuous logging?

Hi Sean.
I notice that you had no response to this. I recommend using the built-in ontape to directory features available since IDS 11.10. Change TAPEDEV and LTAPEDEV to different dedicated directory paths (chown informix:informix and chmod 770), no need to restart Informix. Run level 0 archives with "ontape -s -L 0 -d" (where "-d" means turn off prompting for backup to directory), and save individual files per logical log as soon as they are complete by setting the following in $INFORMIXDIR/etc/alarmprogram.sh:
BACKUPLOGS=Y
BACKUP_CMD="ontape -a -d"
You will find the file names produced are date/time stamped (except the last L0 or L1 which is renamed when the next is run) and easy to follow. You can enable compression by setting the following in the $ONCONFIG file, for example:
BACKUP_FILTER gzip
RESTORE_FILTER gunzip
