We are going to upgrade our system and database in future. But I have to try out HPL in case we need to play with it. The error comes when I try to create the device array. I have checked the IDS log, there is no error been reported. Any body has idea? "What EXACTLY were you trying to do?"
...and how are you trying to do it? Is this an unload or load job? Are
you sure the device name is unique?
Try dropping the onpload database and starting over.
Then come back here with step-by-step details of what you're trying to
do.....

I am tryiny to move data from one table to another table.
Lot of people suggest to use HPL and PIPE.
Below is the steps I have done.
1. login as informix
2. create a named pipe file;
3. run " ipload"
4. create a new project;
5. try to create device array for both unload and load job, but get
error message
"error occurred when attempting to update the database"
however, when I quit "ipload" and re-run the "ipload", I do see the
device array which I created moment ago with error message.
But the device array contains no detail information.
Thanks,
Denny

Denny,
why don't you create a device array with many files and create two jobs, one
to unload and another to load?
I always use HPL in this way and it works fine and very fast. take care about
how many files you'll use depending on your server cpu and disk.
