Re: cpio errors on install: Bad Magic - Again

1) Call Informix and let them know that you are having the problem TOO or it won't get fixed. Try to get them to log it as another instance of the bug I was getting (sorry I don't have the case or bug #, but they can look it up by searching for "cpio" and "unixware"). Other people have said they have the same problem as well, and it won't get fixed until enough folks get on Informix's case. But don't hold your breath for a fast fix. For years they have included *wrong* instructions for loading the software on a Unixware machine. I notified them long ago, but the simple fix of making corrections in text still has not been done. I've called them multiple times on the cpio error, but they can't seem to duplicate the problem. They have re-shipped media to me multiple times, but I get the same problem. Each time they have re-shipped, they say that they take the actual media and test it, but don't have this problem. But I receive the media, and still have this same problem - on different machines. I'm not sure why they can't duplicate the problem. They tell me that they even try it on another Unixware box. Are you using Unixware as well? 2) The solution that I've found is to go ahead and install with the `install*` script. It looks like the problem is a bad cpio end of file marker or something like that. But all the software seems to be there. So far I have not had problems with software loaded this way. 3) For reasons like this I always load new software to a different directory so we can test out the new software. This way, if things don't work properly we can still use the previous software.
