Which .Net provider, and where?

I understand that there are two .Net providers available for connecting to an Informix database - the 'universal' DB2 provider and the Informix one. I also understand that the DB2 one is considered 'better' in that it supports .Net frameworks later than 2.0, and has fewer issues. Given that I am having some problems with the Informix .Net provider (3.0.0.2), can someone confirm that the above is correct, and also where I can download it? I have searched the IBM website and have thus far failed to find anywhere from where it is downloadable. TIA Neil.

This has *never* happened before! :o) You can get this https://www.ibm.com/services/forms/preLogin.do?source=swg-idsdpds and this https://www.ibm.com/services/forms/preLogin.do?source=swg-daivs That should do the job. I hope / think / pray. :o) -- Cheers, Obnoxio The Clown http://obotheclown.blogspot.com I will now proceed to pleasure myself with this fish.
Hi, yes. If you can use the "universal" .NET provider (i.e. your application does not do any Informix specific stuff that prevents you from using it), I recommend using this rather than the Informix one. You will indeed have more and earlier support for new features in the "universal" .NET provider. ( But I can't confirm whether it has fewer issues. ) OTC already responded regarding possible download locations/URLs. Thanks, Are you aware of a connection or connection pooling issue in the Informix provider? I am getting sporadic (and unpredictable) 'cannot create user thread' errors from the .Net provider which seem (from the call stack) to be concerned with opening a new connection. The client code is religious about creating and opening connections in a 'using' statement which should cause the connection to be closed when it's disposed method is called (ie when control leaves the 'using' section). I'm guessing that the .Net provider doesn't do this. eg using (IDbConnection cn = new IfxConnection(...)) { Cn.Open(); ... } //the connection should be closed when control passes this point I have connection pooling explicitly turned on in the connection string. Any ideas if I am on the right scent? Neil.
Hi Neil, The common .NET provider (that can be used to connect DB2 and IDS) has support for .NET FW 2.0 and 4.0. More information about it can be obtained by posting question to the development forum http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/forums/forum.jspa?forumID=3D467 Regards, Satyan Software Engineer R&D - IBM Information Management Division 11200 Lakeview, Lenexa, KS 66219 Tel: 913 599 8792 (T/L: 337-8792) |------------> | From: | |------------> >--------------------------------------------------------------------= -----------------------------------------------------------------------= -------| |"NEIL HAUGHTON" <neil.haughton@autoscribe.co.uk> = = | >--------------------------------------------------------------------= -----------------------------------------------------------------------= -------| |------------> | To: | |------------> >--------------------------------------------------------------------= -----------------------------------------------------------------------= -------| |ids@iiug.org = = | >--------------------------------------------------------------------= -----------------------------------------------------------------------= -------| |------------> | Date: | |------------> >--------------------------------------------------------------------= -----------------------------------------------------------------------= -------| |07/21/2011 04:14 AM = = | >--------------------------------------------------------------------= -----------------------------------------------------------------------= -------| |------------> | Subject: | |------------> >--------------------------------------------------------------------= -----------------------------------------------------------------------= -------| |Which .Net provider, and where?
