Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.

I need some help, I am developing an application which uses
a Sun Sparc running Solaris 2.3 and
I-NET version 5.02 trying to connect to an HP 9000/877 server
running Informix ONLINE and I-STAR version 5.03. When my
application attempts to connect to the database server I get
an error -468 which says "....cannot get user id from the system
passwd file..... I can rsh to and from the server without any problem
(and without a password). There is no NIS (Yellow pages running) or
remote mounted file systems involved.
I know that there has to be an entry in the /etc/services file
on the HP that the sqlexecd looks for. My question is: does the
HP have to be rebooted for the daemon to see the port or will starting
the daemon pick it up?? or I am I missing something else??
NOTE: It is difficult for me to reboot the server as there are other
applications up and running.
Anybody have any suggestion! Thanks in advance
