Informix on Linux
Global Phone Chat ================= Informix sponsored a global phone chat with the key members of the closed-door Linux Committee, this past Friday, 19 September 1997. Both Informix and User representatives in several countries were on-line to discuss the elements of the possibility of the Informix-to-Linux port. I must emphasize it's just talk at this point. Thanks to Informix for sponsoring this call! While details of the discussion cannot be divulged, it is safe to say things are progressing in a positive direction. This was an important phone call, for several reasons, but I think the most important attribute about the call is that it did indeed occur. It represents the beginnings of the fleshing out of an idea. What happens in the next few weeks will show even more excitement. I am extremely encouraged. Showing your support right now to Informix can be something I think they would like to see. Simply post here that you want Informix on Linux. Discovery and Awareness ======================= I recently received this URL: http://www.m-tech.ab.ca/linux-biz/ from Marco Greco, ( marcog@ctonline.it ) who runs a site in Italy. He has been doing some good research with regards to seeing businesses who run Linux. This one URL is jam-packed with information about businesses using Linux. Take a peek! Get distracted and amazed at the phenomenon called Linux. Marco has also set up a page for Informix on Linux, and I believe he has a post here in c.d.i. with more information about it. Probably the single most important step anyone can take with regards to Linux is to actually download the software, or get a distribution CD, load the soft- ware, and see Linux run. Seeing is believing. CNET, ( cnet.tv.com ) the TV show did a report on "upgrade madness" this past week-end, and while watching it, I thought about how Linux may be playing an even bigger part in the changing landscape than we realize. That's all for now... stay tuned and if there's something we all need to hear about, with regards to Informix and/or Linux, please post it. And please post your support!
