In article <5j2v1h$969@proxy5.proxy.ozemail.net>, dion@multitask.com.au says... >Ok....JDBC can run on a machine with no ODBC code installed... Call for call, the JDBC API mimicks the ODBC API very closely. Every capability a given JDBC method offers is available in ODBC; in many cases, to the extent that it looks like only the names of the functions were changed. Naturally, you don't screw around with LPSTR pointers in JDBC, you just pass strings. You don't use the goofy ODBC SQLSetConnect with SQL_AUTOCOMMIT to set auto-commit mode, you just call JDBC's setAutoCommit function. You don't call an SQLGetInfo with a bazillion different parameters; you just call the methods supportsOpenStatementsAcrossRollback() or supportsNonNullableColumns() or whatever. Some capabilities ODBC offers aren't supported by JDBC; thus, my statement that JDBC is a subset of ODBC. -- William Harris william@carsinfo.com
