Hi I have some files in binary format and to be imported in the Informix DB. I don't know which tools was used to generate these file but the "file" command from HP-UX tells that these files are awk program text, which can be quite wrong. Is there a way or some Unix/Informix tools that can be used to see these files in plain text? Thanks for any tip. BG

Lots od -t c filename | head -n 20 cat -vet filename | fold -b | head -n 20 etc As ever, GNU od will probably give you lots more useful options than HP-UX native od (unless HP now distribute GNU fileutils with HP-UX) -- Ian Wilson
