Backuping Large DB's
Posted in 1994
I have a fairly large DB (approx 55 GB), which is beginning to become (o.k., it already has become) a real problem to backup on a regular basis. The data is very dynamic, so performing a level 0 once a month with many inrementals, is not possible. The current config is: Sequent /750, ptx 2.1 Online 5.00 Tape device: 8mm Mirrored data: ~70% (55GB unmirrored size.) I plan to migrate this DB to Online 6.0 in near future, and take advantage of the new OnArchive tools (adding 4 tape drives). I have just completed re-organizing the DB, so that it is fairly well balanced, allowing the exploitation of OnArchive's DPSpace level backups and multiple drive support. In the very near future, I will be adding another Sequent (5000 series), and clustering it together with my /750. The DB on this system is expected to to grow to 60+ GB in very short period of time, with an additional 50 - 60 GB added to the first DB. So, the $68,000 question, how do I backup 200+ GB of data?? I believe that OnArchive will help tremendously, but it is too new, to say for sure. Is anyone using OnArchive, with multiple tape drives, on large DB's?? What about large DB's under 5.0 or 4.10, what are you doing?? Any feedback or input from anyone faced with this kind of problem, would be greatly appreciated.
