Ramki, I ran into this once before and I will see if I can remember what is actually going on. While you are inside the field all keystrokes are held inside the field buffer. The buffer doesn't write to the variable until you press enter on that field. When you do this the buffer writes to the variable and then displays the variable. Until then the display is just the buffer. If you want to get the beuufer into the variable try the get_fldbuf() function. I believe the syntax would be something like let X=get_fldbuf(status). Now I'm only telling you this from memory so if I'm wrong about any of this I hope someone else out there will straighten me out.
