As an alternative, possibly better, suggestion which doesnt involve creating a program. This does require 5.01 or higher. Create a dummy table with a row that contains a serial datatype column. Create an insert trigger to set the post insert value of the serial column into a global stored procedure variable. In your stored procedure insert a record to the dummy table. That will set the global variable to the value of the serial datatype. Use this value as the name of the file as it is guaranteed to be unique for the life of this instance of the stored procedure. Delete the row from the dummy table. Cheers - Jim My opinions are my own.
