Full GLS support. Dynamic 4GL does however have simple character conversions so as long as you use an 8 bit character set you should be fine. Full GLS support is however supposed to mean support for Japanese, Chinese and the like. I don't realy know if 4GL supports that properly or if it's even interesting. > I was under the impression that D4gl would do everything >that old 4gl does and more (except maybe for the price). The price isn't too bad but it sure is a problem for someone small who allready have say an SCO version of 4GL and wanted to upgrade to Linux. They could get a new 4GL compiler for a low price while they would have to pay significantly for D4GL. As this isn't developed by Informix they may also have problems with lowering the price on Linux. >If this is the case then why bother with old 4gl on a new platform, as I >imagine it will be phased out in a couple of years. On the other hand, >old 4gl might be a really easy port with esqlc already there. It should be so easy that it shouldn't be much to talk about. Of course Informix does have limited resources just like we all do in the development community but it might be only a matter of days to do the port. The main reason I can see for a 4GL port would be the price.
