Re: On-Line Admin Help

Steven, Welcome to OnLine! As far as books go, you might try "Informix OnLine Performance Tuning" by Elizabeth Suto. Also, take a look at "Informix Administrator's Survival Guide" by... well I've misplaced his name. However, the second book's ISBN number is 0-13-124314-4. In deciding how to setup your raw spaces you need to look at both the number of disks you have and how your database will be used. As a rule of thumb though: 1 Disk Setup a space for root and a space for your database. 2 Disks On disk one, setup a space for root. On disk two, setup a space for your database. 3 Disks On disk one, setup a root space and a space for your least frequently used table. On disk two, setup a space for the log files. On disk three, setup a space for your most frequently used tables. That's about as generic as you get. Also keep in mind that both the OS and swap files use disks pretty heavily. You might want to avoid those disks if you can. If you describe you setup in more detail, you'll probably end up with better suggestions. (I.e., number of disks, number of tables, database use: decision support? ). --Craig (craig@chemistry.utah.edu) > > I am pretty new to the concepts of ON-Line.
