We have an existing database application running under SCO Xenix and Informix. The application is stagnant -- it was written four years ago, and hasn't been modified since. We're considering purchasing a DecStation 3100 running Ultrix, and buying the Informix software for that platform and moving the application there. The problem that I'm having is that Informix is asking for ~$4000 to buy the development system, that I only need to use once. What I'm wondering if there isn't another way to do this. The consultant who wrote the package suggested finding another system near me with a similar configuration, and compiling the code there. Then, just bring the executables back, and use them with the run-time system. Is this illegal? If not, anyone out there that may be able to help? Please, no flames. I haven't run into this problem before, and I'm finding it hard to justify $4000 for a package that I'm only going to use once. Thanks in advance for all of your help. If the answer won't be useful to the public at large, please E-mail. -- Marc Snyder UUCP: ...philabs!crpmks!marcs System Administrator Ciba-Geigy Corporation Hawthorne, New York Work: 914.785.2284 Play: 914.347.6440
