I-STAR over VSAT

Well, the time has come for us in our project to put up or shut up. And we are worried about I-STAR performance over VSAT. So... has anyone used I-STAR over VSAT, and do you have performance issues? We are Using OnLine 5.1, but are likely to go 7.1 (especially if that would/could alleviate the I-STAR/VSAT lag). By performance issues, I'm speaking of a minimum of 1 minute to get even just one row from a remote database over VSAT. We've tried many different systems, databases, tables, querying, updating, inserting, deleting, and the magic minimum is still there. And, we've isolated the problem to VSAT, since the Ethernet, X.25 connections don't pose this problem.
