Create DBSpace...

Hi folks,
We're trying to automatize our database installation throughout hundreds
of sites and it is straightforward to use onspaces command to create
desired dbspaces. In an NT 4.0 (SP3) box with Informix 7.23 TC1, a 500
MB of dbspace can be created in as long as 20 *MINUTES*. Since we are
dealing very large dbspaces, hugeness of total running time of the
installation script is our main concern. The interesting part of the
problem is, the same dbspace (same size, same location, same etc.) can
be easily created by using Space Explorer (GUI tool that is used to
create dbpaces) in couple of *SECONDS*.
Yes, we called Informix NT support. They really have no logical answer
about this huge time difference (couple of seconds to half and hour)
between the two procedures that exactly does the same thing. Any
suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

i have never worked with this gui-tool but on unix platforms there is a
difference between creating root-dbspaces or adding another dbspace to the
system because the root-dbspace would be something like "formatted"
