Hello all,
IDS 11.10.FC2W4 on solaris 10
I run a shell script to Restore (ontape) one for my test servers every week
with level 0 of prod server.
Is is possible to change the onconfig parameter TAPEDEV with in the shell
script before starting the restoration and after finishing.
Does onmode [-wf <onconfig parameter>=<value>] works for changing TAPEDEV, i
could not confirm it from the documents.
Any help would be apprecaited.
Thank you
Vikas.
sorry i forgot to mention..
using ontape backup to directly feature for level 0 bkps and restores.
could soft link be the solution?

sed -e 's/^TAPEDEV/TAPEDEV NEW-TAPEDEV/g' onconfig > onconfig.other
export ONCONFIG=onconfig.other
after finishing just set the ONCONFIG to your default and delete onconfig.other

Changing TAPEDEV without restarting IDS is a workable solution. Since
TAPEDEV is read by ontape not the IDS engine the engine does not have to be
bounced to recognize the change. Note that LTAPEDEV behaves differently if
it was set to /dev/null when IDS started or if you want to change it to
/dev/null - you either have to restart the engine or use onmonitor to change
it since the engine processes the /dev/null setting itself.
