As far as 1 and 2, I'm unable to comment. But 3...... I'd recommend avoiding Solaris 7. We've recently upgraded from Solaris 2.5 to 7 and have encountered an interesting problem. System process are hanging. A pstack on the hung process will resume the execution. The processes affected most often are our cpu vps. We've also had times when the whole server will hang. Touching the keyboard/mouse on the console gets the thing moving again. (Shamefully, we've attached a vibrating pager to the mouse to accomplish this movement remotely. Only had to use this once. ) :) Sun is aware of the problem and I'm told it's fixed in 2.8 but we are currently waiting for a patch for Solaris 7(2.7). We've been able to keep the server running with scripts. The only time the database dies is when doing a binary unload and the cpu vp handling the unload hangs for an extended period of time. ... just my 2 cents....
