I've used fourgen to create a manufacturing package, BOM, PO, SO and stock control (you know the kind of thing I mean). We developed packages far faster than using just Informix 4GL, the screen painter was a joy to use if a little slow and the organisation of files with their rather nifty make.rds program was an elegant solution to a well known problem (one that informix should have solved back in the early days). We ended up altering the way we worked to fit in with the way that fourgen generated code and had no problems. However, whenever new staff were taken on they always had problems with fourgen until they stopped fighting it. We as a very small software house, managed 3 sites with only three people and continued at that number until we had our fifth site. So long as you work with it, fourgen is a joy to use. If your staff are being forced to use it after dancing to their own tune for many years I'd say you are in for trouble unless they are particularly flexible. -----------------------------------> simc@cix.compulink.co.uk Don't just do something - sit there!
