Joe,
I understand you want to get from the W95 system to a UNIX Solaris 2.5.1
system. The UNIX system has Informix running on it.
There's probably something I'm missing here, but this should help. Normally
a request like this is relegated to the RTFM response, but the FM is pretty
opaque when it comes to clarity and simplicity for setting up a network
connection.
1. Make sure you have entries in the sqlhosts file on your UNIX box
set up to look for incoming traffic from outside the server.
This is located in your $INFORMIX/etc directory:
They should look something like this:
rebel_shm onipcshm rebel rebel_tcp #inside
rebel_dsa ontlitcp rebel rebel_dsa #outside
Look at what the /etc/services file has for Informix entries.
They should be at the bottom, and look something like this:
rebel_tcp 1536/tcp
rebel_tcp 1536/udp
rebel_dsa 1537/tcp
rebel_dsa 1537/udp
The udp port entries are optional, but you can add them for
completeness. udp can share the same channel.
2. Set up entries in your services and hosts and files on W95/NT.
These are located in winnt/system32/drivers/etc .
services entries something like this:
.
. ( all your other entries at the top )
. ( make sure no other channel is using 1537 )
.
rebel_dsa 1537/tcp # necessary and unique number
rebel_dsa 1537/udp # optional, can share channel
hosts entries something like this:
1.1.1.101 rebel
Additionally FWIW:
IF you have a sqlhosts file on an NT, meaning you'd have
Informix on your NT box, you should keep it in sync with
the UNIX box with Informix:
rebel_dsa onsoctcp rebel rebel_dsa
3. Configure Inet with the setnet32 program or use ODBC. If you
choose Inet, I would recommend setting up the stores data base
just to help debug it with Ilogin. If you choose ODBC you're
probably in for a more simple setup.
ODBC
Intersolv site has a set of drivers that are available for 30
days no charge that work very well. Openlink Lite is available,
but requires Inet, otherwise you have to get the paywhere Openlink
ODBC.
And Informix has CLI, which may also be used, and is the ODBC
from Informix, which if my memory is correct, are Intersolv
ODBC drivers. Could be wrong on that one though, haven't used
it in a while.
Anyway, enjoy...
Tim
