Rough Translation:-
Hello, I have a servant in Unix with Informix 7. I want to do backup of
logical logs to disc... In the ONCONFIG I placed to the parameter LTAPEDEV one
route of my disc. Then since do I do the backup?
Thanks for his help
To backup logs your need to run ontape -c (leave running continuously
to backup each log as it becomes full) or ontape -a ( to back up all
currently full logs and then stop). Note also, as you are using disk
you will need to have an ALARMPROGRAM configured to take each log file
as it is written and rename it safely before the next log file gets
written.

In Informix 7.xx, LTAPEDEV has to be set to the name of a file, not a
filesystem or directory. If that is what you have done, then you are good
to go. There are three ways to backup logical logs. You can use any of
these methods using whichever of ontape or onbar you are using for the
regular archives (it has to be the same). I've posted the ontape versions
of the commands. For onbar see the backup and restore guide:
- Backup logical logs continuously (ontape -c) in a window or terminal
that will remain open permanently.
- Backup logical logs as needed manually or via cron: ontape -a
- Backup logical logs automatically as they fill using the ALARMPROGRAM
parameter in the ONCONFIG file. There is a sample script that uses onbar in
$INFORMIXDIR/bin called logsfull.sh. You can see an ontape version of that
in my package utils3_ak which you can download from the IIUG Software
Repository (www.iiug.org/software). Whenever a logical log fills the
ALARMPROGRAM is launched. If it catches the logs full event code (23?) it
can launch a copy of ontape or onbar to backup the logs.
