You could try ... use dd to copy from your tape to /dev/null with input
block size the same as your archive (tapeblk in onconfig). dd will tell you
the number of blocks, hence the volume of data on the tape.

Only used pages are archived.

That's a clever one. I'll have to try it...
However, that wouldn't tell you how much tape length would be left.

If I have a tape drive that supports compression, I guess my <TAPEBLK>
byte blocks will occupy a different length on the actual tape depending
upon the data content.
I wonder if trying to read the tape as you suggest, but with the non-
compressing device, we'd get the 'right' answer...

You know how big your tape is .... convert it to blocks and subtract what's
used from it.
