Must we use disk-striping
Posted in 1998
Hi, I have a serious question on which I've already got a lot of different answers. When installing/ordering a new machine for IDS should you use the following disk-architectures: + Mirroring Pos: HA + both disks can be used for reading Neg: All the data should be written two times + Striping Pos: Data load is balanced over a set of disks Neg: You don't know which data is on which disk so you can't use fragmantation optimal + RAID Pos: Disk reads can be faster (Many READ boxes have caching) and you have HA Neg: Writes are slower Is anyone able to tell me more about this... Unitil now my opinion was: Use Mirrored disks without striping, and fragment the tables yourself over the available drives. Greetings, Rob Prop Database Consultant Informa Automatisering bv
