Has anyone got any views on the use of LIKE to ->define ->RECORDS in 4GL, or any limitations on how you use it based on personal ->experience? Mark, We had this discussion in this group a while back, and the general concensus was that: (1) it is generally not a good idea to use like to define entire record structures for the later confusion it can cause... esp. with selects, inserts, and updates. (2) it is nice to have the like feature available for individual variable definitions. if a column definition changes from char (20) to char (25) for instance, then all you would need to do is recompile.
