Re: Determining Size of BLOB
Posted in 1995
Puru, There is an internal function called 'length' in informix hat will return the length ( in bytes ) of a BYTE or TEXT field. You will have to perform two selects ( 1 to selct the length and then 1 to fetch the actual BLOB ). The maximum length of a BLOB is the size of an signed long 32-bit integer ( ie. 2G ). Informix reads/writes BLOBS in pages ( determined by the pagesize of your BLOBSPACE ), so for very large blobs, several pysical reads will take place. You can have informix automatically read the BLOB for you or conversely override the open/read/write blob functions with your own. Refer to the chapter 'Working with Binary Large Objects' in your Informix ESQL/C Programmers manual.
