Correct.

Also correct.

Correct.

This only applies to version 5.x and earlier versions. With 6.x and
later versions of the software, and specifically with the software
available on Linux, there is a different critical environment variable,
and that is INFORMIXSERVER, which specifies an entry in the sqlhosts
file. There is an auxilliary, non-critical environment variable,
INFORMIXSQLHOSTS, which specifies the name of the sqlhosts file if the
default, $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts, is not correct.
You should get some output from:
grep "^$INFORMIXSERVER[ ]" ${INFORMIXSQLHOSTS:-$INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts}
# ^^^^^
# blank, tab
The notation assumes you've got INFORMIXDIR set; if not, the reference
to $INFORMIXDIR shoudl be reworked to ${INFORMIXDIR:-/usr/informix}, but
it is better to set $INFORMIXDIR (IMNSHO).
For SE, that should normally list seipcpip in the second column, and the
machine name returned by hostname in the thrid column, and the fourth
column should be sqlexec unless you want to execute some other program.
Note that for the seipcpip protocol, the 'service' name is the name of
an executable, located in $INFORMIXDIR/lib unless you specify an
absolute pathname.
