I also always have believe it is Informix way of saying yes there is data on this disk but I don't know anything about so you can't have it. I presume it can be patched through but by whom I don't know and I bet the cost and time required would out weigh any benefits from doing it. If you've kept all your logs since the backup then you should be OK but from the sound of it you haven't.
