To the original poster, check out the IIUG site. There is a program I wrote that does
exactly what Kenneth suggests. It is called su_ontape.

Use another c program to link it.
Include following lines in the c program:
setuid( id_informix );
system( "ontape -c" );
where id_informix is the informix user id in your system.
set mode of this c program to 4755 and owned by informix.
