Copying databases using onarchive/ondatartr
Posted in 1996
I am having some trouble copying a database using the above combination.
I performed a level 0 archive of a database running on machine A, to disk. This
seems to have run correctly and produced several files in the tree specified in
the config.arc file's DEVICE parm.
Now comes the fun stuff...
I have moved the volumes over to another machine, remounted them at exactly the
same mount points as they were on the original, and tried to restore the whole
thing into an empty database in order to make a copy of the original.
I use ondatartr.
This is the console:
$ ondatartr
ON-Datartr Version 7.10
Copyright (c) 1993,1994 - Informix Software, Inc.
ONDATARTR> retrieve/dbspaceset=*/disk=(/arc/arc1)
Executing...
What saveset ID is to be used on volume /arc/arc1?:00000003
Level 0 physical restore started.
$
It does nothing.
The following is what's on /arc/arc1.
ONDATARTR> list/disk=(/arc/arc1)

Is Informix being too clever? and validating stuff which stops the restore into
a different database? I have done the obvious -- ie. rename the host to the
same name as the original...
Any ideas?
