Thank you Harry and everyone for your email responses!
I made a last-minute decision Sunday to run from cron rather than my
/etc/rc and assumed it would work the same. My system-administrator,
unix-guru is laid up in the hospital this week. :-(
This is what I did to make it work:
#required paths
INFORMIXDIR=/informix
DBPATH=/ASP/Informix
export INFORMIXDIR DBPATH
#my local paths
IFXDIR=$INFORMIXDIR/bin
ASPIFX=/ASP/bin/Informix
$IFXDIR/sacego $ASPIFX/get_units
