The latest 4gl has a bug where preparing a string causes the string to have spaces added to it. (Someone here mentioned it, I've logged it as a call in the UK.). e.g. "select a,b,c from t1" becomes "select a , b , c from t1" after you prepare something from it. I'm just installed 4GL 7.30.UC1 which Informix UK have confirmed is the latest on Solaris 2.6. We are trying to upgrade 4gl due to DBCENTURY problems which are impacting a client business. Looks like 7.30.uc1 should be put on quality hold! Also IDS 7.31.UC3-1 has a Y2K problem fixed in 7.31.UC4 but in the UK UC4 Workgroup Edition is not yet orderable! So I can't order a 4gl that works or an Online that works.... Arrggh! David. -- David Williams

The string with the added spaces is syntactically identical to the original query and will yield the same result. So why bother? Or do you do additional things with the string after the PREPARE?
