prob with ACE output and WORD

I am looking for suggestions on how to avoid a problem I have with the output of my ACE reports having unaligned columns when saving to Microsoft Word. I run a number of ACE reports on UNIX and direct the output to a file on the server. Then I enter Microsoft Word 6 and connect to a drive "D" which is my server. I then read the file into Microsoft Word 6 and save it as a Word 6 file onto my C drive and mail it out to various locations using Microsoft Mail. The columns are set in ACE using statements like: print column 5, fld1, column 20 fld2 using "####", ... When saving into Word, the columns lose their allignment.
