ISM and 2 Gbyte file limits in IDS 9.4

According to the Docnotes for IDS 9.4 ISM cannot be used for dbpaces > 2Gbytes due to a limitation in Legato Networker 5. Would any of the Informix personnel who read this list like to comment about this. Should IBM Informix provide all customers with an alternative storage manager as a workaround for this deficiency? Or is it a deficiency at all. We have certainly been successful in backing up and restoring dbspaces which are bigger than 2 Gbytes. It seems that a number of 2Gbytes files were used as part of the same backup. regards Malcolm sending to informix-list
ISM is a toy storage manager in a lot of ways: just 4 connections open at a time, and the list of supported devices is small. FWIW, Veritas NetBackup doesn't have this limitation. ISM is Legota "Light" and will have many of the limitiations of that
product.
I believe when IBM (well Informix) originally brought out onbar there
were no plans to include a storage manager, but that decision was
changed to include legato light.
if anyone's requirements (not just space related!!) are beyond those
of this product, other solutions are available, Tivoli, Legato etc.
Thats always been the IBM / Informix response, even such things as
"impoirted restores" are not really supported in ISM (althought they
can be made to work).
