Hanging/Suspended processes in INFORMIX

Background info: I'm running INFORMIX Dynamic Online 6.0 on Digital OSF/1 3.0. I have two processes written in ESQL/C. One process reads some static data from the database (about 4 tables) builds a logical transaction and inserts the proper data in about 8 different tables(i.e. - Opening Accounts). For each transaction, there is a 'begin' and 'commit'. The process builds another logical transaction (account info) and so on. The process is a batch account opening process. I may want to open 2000 accounts to fill my database for volume testing. My problem is that after say 1500 transactions or so, my process goes into a wait state in INFORMIX (sm_read wait). It is not consistent as when it will do this. It may do this after 50 transactions or it may complete all 2000. It also isn't consistent as to where in the process it is when it is in this waiting stage. I tried locating the resource it is waiting on thru INFORMIX and resource addresses, but that hasn't helped me. My second process is similar in that is does a large volume of transactions, but commits after each transaction. At some point, not consistent as to where, it hangs forever (waiting on a resource) Has anyone had similar problems or know how I can track down this problem, either thru INFORMIX or thru UNIX utilities.
