'Recommends and assesses new Informix versions and products. 'Upgrades DBMS software and products and integrates with existing configurations and applications, including third-party products which are related to the Informix DBMS. 'Serves as point-of-contact to coordinate service with DBMS vendor and other related third-party vendors. 'Monitors DBMS performance, calculates optimum values for DBMS parameters, modifies DBMS parameters and configuration as required, and makes recommendations for performance tuning of parameters that are outside of the DBA scope. 'Designs logical and physical database structures, reviews descriptions of changes to database designs to understand how future changes affect physical databases (how data is stored, physical characteristics, location, space, performance and access methods). 'Writes standard operating procedures (SOPs) and maintains content of current DBMS documentation and SOPs relating to systems database administration. 'Participates in the development and testing of plans to continue information systems functions in the event of a disaster that interrupts normal computer operations. 'Participates in development and periodic testing of security processes as it relates to the DBMS and database applications. 'Provides direct consultation and support to projects or application developers in the areas of database architectural design, database conversion, independent testing, application development and database administration. 'Participate in problem resolution and DBMS troubleshooting, as required. 'Researches, evaluates, operates, analyzes and makes recommendations concerning third-party products which are related to Informix and the impact of using such products. 'Communicates orally and in writing with users, technical staff and management. Minimum required: Computer Science background (degree preferred) with at least 3 years direct experience as a Database Administrator for Informix products (Version 7.X and higher), and experience in Unix shell scripting. Desired: Experience in Informix "auditing feature", experience in database replication, experience in stored procedures.
