Will this work, just to compile the Perl database module? Some have been able to compile programs on Red Hat 5.x with glibc6. However someone posted that you are highly likely to run into all kinds of problems (memory allocation and others) if you do. You may not see these when you compile. The program may also run initially, but bugs may pop up. This is not from experience, just something someone else posted. Someone who seemed to know what he was talking about. With this in mind it's kind of hard to experiment. One alternative is to intall the libc5 libraries and compile/link with these. That is possible, but again according to some other post quite hard. Another alternative is of course to simply install another linux distribution just to compile what you need. Then install the compiled version on Red Hat when you have reinstalled that. The third, and probably best, alternative is to wait for someone else to compile these programs. I am sure someone will soon and would be willing to share them. May be it would be a good idea to create compiled versions of these and other programs and post them somewhere. I am sure the IIUG would be willing to host them on their web site if someone compiled them properly.
