Perhaps I do not understand your message, or maybe I do :-)
But for our batch processing, we use:
1. Unix shell scripts (awk,grep,sed, join and the rest) and dbaccess for
simple stuff like adding records
2. ESQL and 4GL if the data is either too complex or would create long
transactions using dbaccess
Most of our batch transactions are either insert a record, or of the
add/change/delete a record type.
